C.S.Opportunity
Almost every time it rains in New York City, the combined sewage system is overwhelmed and millions of raw sewage is dumped into our waterways.
Newtown creek is one of the most polluted waterways in the country because of this. The inlet used to be surrounded by marshland but with industrialization the landscape hardened.
Rather than pitting industry against the landscape our proposal looks to provide new industrial opportunities that can reengage marshland. By phasing the introduction of artificial and natural wetlands, water treatment can become a new industry. This will provide new education opportunities, new accessible green jobs, and new grey water infrastructure for the neighborhood.
Transforming combined sewage overflow into an opportunity.
